Pre-paid funeral plans are likely not the best option for most people, according to Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley. He’s holding a second round of hearings today on the 12-billion dollar funeral and cemetery industries. Grassley says families found that if someone dies in another state there are additional costs involved in pre-paid funerals.Grassley says families who want to arrange funerals in advance should NOT pay for them up-front. He says even though the death of a loved one means a difficult time for surviving family members, they shouldn’t rush decisions, as the family could be put into a vulnerable financial position. He says you should shop for funeral arrangements like you would for any other product. There’re about two-million funerals and burials a year in the U-S. The average cost of a funeral, burial and monument is 75-hundred-20 dollars.
