Iowa Congressman Tom Latham says there’ll be plenty of benefits for Iowans in the massive budget for fiscal year 2001 that’s expected to be approved in the U-S House today.Latham says the spending measure includes six-billion dollars for farm relief. It also contains 40-billion dollars to reform Medicare and get prescription drug coverage to low-income senior citizens.Latham says he’s disappointed the House did NOT get the two-thirds vote needed yesterday for an amendment that would limit Congress’ power to raise taxes.Latham, a republican from Alexander, says they’ll have to get more support from both sides of the aisle before the measure is brought up again.
