The boss of about ten-thousand Iowans gets a new title today. Ron Dardis, the commander of the Iowa National Guard, is being promoted from Brigadier General to Major General in a military ceremony at 8:30 this morning which will be held at the Starc Armory at Camp Dodge.Iowa Guard spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Mike Grove, says the promotion means General Ron Dardis will be wearing two stars on each lapel instead of one. Governor Vilsack will officiate the ceremony. Vilsack and Dardis’ wife, Carmel, will pin the new insignia on the General’s jacket.Colonel Grove says the new rank for the state’s National Guard chief won’t have a significant impact on the rank and file soldiers and airmen. He says it’s just a matter of rank catching up with Dardis since he took over last June. The Iowa Guard has about 74-hundred soldiers and 21-hundred airmen.
