Davenport police and the Davenport Housing Department plan to hold their first ever gun buy back program on May 6th. Police Corporal Wayne Dawson says the U-S Department of Housing and Urban Development gave the city a 21-thousand dollar grant for the program. Dawson says anyone who brings in a workable handgun on that day will get 50 bucks — no questions asked. The only restriction is the person bringing in the gun must be at least 18 years old. Dawson says they hope the program will reduce violent crime involving guns. The city will also pass out 200 gunlocks to those turning in guns. All the guns that’re collected will be destroyed.
