The Iowa Department of Public Safety unveiled a new computer system today it says will help law officers keep better track of criminals. Steve Conlon with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says the program called VICAP was developed by the F-B-I.VICAP stands for “Violent Criminal Apprehension Program.” He says VICAP can help a law enforcement agency on one side of the state know about a crime committed on the other side by comparing the crimes to see if the cases have any similarities.The D-C-I will serve as the collection point for the information from law agencies across the state.Conlon says they’re excited about using the new system as it has proved to be successful in other states.Conlon says the system will make the state of Iowa a safer place to be.
