Congressman Jim Nussle says the federal government has set aside money which could help cover farmers’ losses if there is a drought this summer, as many farmers fear.Nussle is a top-ranking member of the House Budget Committee.Nussle says several billion dollars will be available for farmers should disaster strike. For example, there’s eight BILLION dollars in reserve for an extra farm program payment, if needed.Nussle made his comments on the Iowa Public Television program, “Iowa Press.”
