Hundreds of union members, their families and supporters gathered in Des Moines Saturday for a rally to mark the two-year anniversary of the strike at Titan Tire in Des Moines. Governor Tom Vilsack told the crowd it should be illegal for companies like Titan to hire re-placement workers during a strike.John Campbell of Des Moines, a union worker at the Firestone plant, attended the rally. He says he supports his brothers and sisters involved in the strike.University of Iowa students who’ve been asking their college to ensure “Hawkeye” apparel isn’t made in sweatshops bused over for the rally, too.Six-hundred-70 members of the United Steel Workers union began their strike against Titan Tire on May 1st of 1998.
