U-S West Communications is moving closer to selling off part of the local phone exchanges the company owns in Iowa. Iowa Utilities Board spokesman Rob Hillesland says the process is moving forward to sell 32 exchanges in northern Iowa to Citizens Telecommunications of Delaware. He says board is deliberating over a few final issues and it looks like the sale could be concluded by the end of the week.The sale involves approximately one-quarter of the local exchanges owned by U-S West in Iowa.The Iowa Utilities board reviews utility reorganizations. The board can turn down a reorganization if it believes the deal isn’t in the best interest of the public. Some of the exchanges involved in the sale include: Algona, Blairsburg, Britt, Cherokee, Correctionville, Estherville, Garner, Humboldt, Jewell, Lansing, Nashua, Onawa, Pocahontas, Sioux Rapids, Storm Lake.
