The status of Iowa’s first-in-the-nation Caucuses may be in doubt. A report issued today by a Republican party commission listed several options for changing the way the nation’s presidential primaries and caucuses are scheduled. Iowa is an option as the first Caucus state, but it’s NOT set in stone. Iowa Republican Party chairman Kayne Robinson is optimistic Iowa can retain its top dog status in the presidential selection process.Robinson says there’s great pressure to retain the current system rather than establishing a new system of rotating, regional primaries to determine the parties’ presidential nominees. Robinson and other Iowans will begin lobbying on the issue next weekend at a G-O-P meeting in Indianapolis. The matter will be settled at the national convention this summer.This past weekend, the nation’s top democrats voted to keep Iowa’s Caucuses first in the nation. The Democratic National Committee’s Rules and Bylaws panel concluded changes in the nominating process were worse than the status quo.
