Davenport’s first gun buy back program was an overwhelming success this weekend. The coordinator of the program says the federal grant money used to buy the guns ran out in less than three hours. Officials paid 50 dollars for each working gun that was turned in. Officers used all the grant money to pay for 420 guns, and then collected several more. One man turned in his gun too late to get paid. He said he just wanted to get it out of the house and away from his grandkids. All of the guns will be destroyed.
