An eastern Iowa animal shelter is using the World Wide Web to find new homes in other states for its dogs and cats. The Muscatine Humane Society is peddling pets on the Internet and in recent weeks has had 16 furry friends adopted outside the area — including Texas, New Jersey and Connecticut. Society Director Chris McGinnis says the website petfinder-dot-org is a great way to link up people with pets.McGinnis says on-line applicants need to meet the same pet adoption criteria as locals. She says there’s nothing unusual about the Muscatine animals, just that they become more desirable when they are featured in cyberspace. She says seeing a picture of the animal helps people select a pet.But in this case, a picture may be worth a thousand barks — or meows.
