Chance to make the PGA Tour for some is in Sioux City

The prep tour for P-G-A tour returns to Sioux City for the 11th time this summer with the BUY.COM Dakota Dunes Open in July. Tournament Director J.R. Castner says a record field will be on hand this time with 156 golfers.The Dakota Dunes will offer a 500-thousand dollar purse, the largest for the tour which until this year was known as the Nike Tour. Castner says while the title sponsor has changed it remains a feeder for the regular tour.Castner says when it started as the Ben Hogan tour 11-years ago it gave young golfers who one day wanted to earn a spot on the P-G-A Tour a place to work on their game.Castner says these days the tour is even a proving ground for aspiring senior golfers.The BUY.COM Dakota Dunes Tournament is July 24th through the 30th.
