State regulators will rule in July on proposed changes for the Isle of Capri riverboat casino in Bettendorf. Nancy Donovan, the boat’s general manager, is asking the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission to approve cutting the number of table games by more than half — and dedicating the empty space to 210 new slot machines. There are three gambling boats in the Quad Cities market: the Isle of Capri, the President in Davenport, which is also licensed by Iowa regulators, and a Rock Island, Illinois-based gambling boat. Donovan says the Quad City gaming market can handle the extra slot machines, as area boats have seen patronage grow by 14 percent. Donovan predicts the Isle of Capri’s gambling take would jump by 11-and-a-half million dollars if they get Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission approval for adding the slot machines.
