State officials now say you should not swim in Backbone Lake near Manchester. Yesterday, a Department of Natural Resources district officer said it was o-k to swim, you just shouldn’t swallow the water in Backbone Lake. Today, the agency’s spokesman Ross Harrison says swimming in the lake is not recommended. Harrison says, however, the Backbone Park beach is still open so park-goers can sunbathe on the beach and wade in the water. Harrison says they can even swim, at their own risk. State technicians are testing the water in 31 state park lakes this summer. None of the other lakes have warnings about swimming.
