The latest crop report from the state Agriculture Department says rains in central and southeast Iowa have filled rivers and creeks to overflowing. But in the western third of the state, farmers report groundwater supplies and ponds have still not filled up. The report says topsoil moisture is 67-percent adequate and 11-percent of the state has a surplus. As for subsoil moisture, the report says it’s rated only 46-percent adequate and four-percent surplus. Iowa’s corn crop is reported at 73-percent good or excellent and beans are reported at 67-percent good or excellent.
