A teenager is dead and five young Iowans are injured — four of them in critical condition — following a 4th of July fireworks accident in Des Moines. The accident happened at about 11:30 on Tuesday night as six kids ranging in age from 14 to 22 drove around Des Moines, setting off fireworks from their car. The car was loaded with illegal fireworks, and an errant spark ignited the stash. The car exploded into a fireball. Three of the victims are in a Des Moines hospital. Two others are in the burn unit at University Hospitals in Iowa City. Fifteen-year-old Shawnte Everett was pronounced dead at the accident scene.
