A stand-up comedian from Iowa is trying to sell hospitals nationwide on the notion laughter really is the best medicine. Gavin Jerome is marketing what he calls the “Jolly Trolley” as a way to inject humor into people who are stuck in hospital beds through the “Jolly Trolley”, a mobile resource center designed to promote humor, healing and happiness. It is a decorated cart that can be wheeled into patients’ rooms and waiting areas. Gavin says the cart includes humorous books and tapes, games and puzzles. It also has goofy gifts and props.Gavin says he’s already sold several of the trolleys to Iowa hospitals. They come with instructional guides and videos for how they should be used. He says they can also be pushed into workplaces, senior centers and other environments. Gavin first used the Jolly Trolley in a waiting room at Grinnell Regional Medical Center where a family awaited word on a loved one in surgery. He says it help remove stress for the family in less than a minute.Gavin is a Dubuque native who now lives in Des Moines, where he’s founder and owner of Gavin Jerome’s Comedy College. It’s a seminar where people learn how to effectively use humor in their personal and professional lives. For more information, call 800-96-GAVIN.
