Working families will miss out on tax relief due to an expected veto from President Clinton, according to Iowa Congressman Tom Latham. The republican from Alexander says the marriage tax penalty relief bill which passed Congress last week apparently will not become law.Latham, a republican, says Clinton will veto the bill due to “political reasons.” Latham says the “unfair tax” is being paid by 297-thousand married couples in Iowa and by about 42-percent of couples nationwide. He says the marriage tax penalty averages 14-hundred dollars per couple.Democrats criticize the republican-backed plan, claiming it gives 78-percent of the benefits to the wealthiest 20-percent of married taxpayers.
