One of the Iowa delegates to the Republican National Convention is hoping activities in Philadelphia dispel the party’s stuffy image. Keith Chiavetta, a 30-year-old Republican from West Branch, attended a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert, and had a ticket for a Blues Traveler concert, but chose to go to another party instead. Chiavetta says that kind of music should prove to his friends that this isn’t your father’s Grand Old Party anymore.World Wrestling Federation star “The Rock” and retired San Francisco 49er Steve Young participated in the convention, and Chiavetta says that helps dispel the image that entertainers aren’t Republicans. Chiavetta, an employee of Hewlett Packard, also hung around H-P events which tried to pursuade convention-goers to support trade policies that would help the computer giant get into China’s market.
