The only University of Iowa football player to win the coveted Heisman Trophy will be honored tomorrow in his hometown in central Iowa. The main street in Adel is being renamed Nile Kinnick Drive in an 11 a-m ceremony.Dean Westergaard is an Adel businessman who led the drive to have Eighth Street renamed for the native son. The remodeled Adel Historical Society Museum is also reopening Saturday with an exhibit honoring the former Iron Man of Hawkeye football.Kinnick won the Heisman in 1939 and died four years later during World War Two when his plane went down during a Navy training mission. Westergaard says Kinnick had many political aspirations, including Senator and Governor, and his U-of-I teammates said he could’ve been anything he wanted to be.The Kinnick events coincide with Adel’s Sweet Corn Festival, which is being coordinated by Suzanne Davidson of Main Street Adel.Davidson expects the crowd will go through five tons of free sweet corn.
