A new home will be assembled in Waterloo today that’ll be like putting together pieces of a very big puzzle. The house was built by a team of 15 young men at the State Training School for Boys in Eldora, then partially disassembled and put on a semi-truck.Jerry Kadner is vocational instructor at the training school. The home will be handed over to Habitat for Humanity, which enables volunteers to build simple, affordable, decent housing in partnership with those in need. Kadner says the boys, who range in age from 16 to 18, learned a lot on the project. The house will be transported from Eldora to Waterloo by the Iowa National Guard as part of a training mission. This is the first house built by boys at the school as part of a project with Habitat for Humanity. Kadner hopes they’ll build many more.Kadner and five of his students will be in Waterloo today to help in the assembly of the house. Another 25 volunteers will be there too to put the house up in about eight hours.
