Visitors to the University of Northern Iowa campus in Cedar Falls might want to bring along some spare change. The University has changed its policy of providing free parking to short-term visitors. Dave Zarifis is the associate director of the UNI Department of Public Safety, he says one lot is being designated for visitors and it will have an automated pay system.Visitors used to be able to pick up a visitor pass and park for free in various lots on campus. Zarifis says visitors will now pay 50 cents an hour to park. He says it’s pretty typical of what you’ll find on other university campuses. He says the number of visitors to campus continues to grow and that’s left them with less space.Zarifis says there will still be special free parking set aside for events at the new performing arts center. The parking changes begin today with the start of the fall semester.
