Pat Buchanan’s name will appear on Iowa ballots as the Reform Party’s presidential candidate. Buchanan’s name was drawn this morning by Iowa’s Secretary of State, as both Buchanan and John Hagelin have claimed the party’s presidential nod. Secretary of State Chet Culver says Hagelin’s name will appear on the Iowa ballot in November, too, but under NO party’s heading. Backers of the two candidates did a bit of verbal tussling both before and after this morning’s decision. Edward Moses of Knoxville, a Buchanan backer, claims to be chairman of Iowa’s Reform Party. Moses accuses Hagelin of trying to hijack the Reform Party.Moses says even though Buchanan won today’s drawing, Buchanan backers will protest Hagelin’s claim to have the party’s nomination.Simi Summer of Fairfield is an employee of the Natural Law Party and a Hagelin supporter. She says Moses is making “false accusations.”Alan Kreglow of Fairfield, a Natural Law Party member, says it’s Buchanan, the former Republican Party candidate, who hijacked the Reform Party. Kreglow is disappointed Hagelin lost today’s draw.Just after Buchanan’s name was drawn, Moses yelled “God was on our side.”
