A former Keokuk man convicted on murder charges in 1997 is back in court for a new trial. Daniel Ramsey was sentenced to death for two murders in a 1996 shooting rampage in Burnside, Illinois. But, the Illinois Supreme Court granted him a new trial. Ramsey appeared in court today in Carthage, Illinois and pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder, home invasion, burglary and aggravated criminal sexual assault. A 16-year old and a 12-year old girl were killed in the shooting spree and three other people were wounded. Ramsey’s new trial will begin in March.
