In high school football action tonight, bragging rights are on the line in West Des Moines as Class 4-A fourth-ranked Valley hosts third-ranked Dowling. Valley coach Gary Swenson says it’s the perfect time for a test like this. He says his team is playing better now than at the beginning of the season.Swenson says Dowling has one of the top quarterbacks in the state in Matt Macri, and a good group of athletic receivers.Swenson says the rivalry aspect just adds to the atmosphere, because there is a huge crowd and lots of excitement.Dowling coach Matt Dillon says rivalry games are what make the sport unique.He says it’s the reason coaches coach and players play.At 3-0, Dillon says he has been happy with the start. He says they’ve only given up a total of 13 points while averaging 40 a game.Dillon says the key for the Maroons is finding a way to consistently move the ball.
