Stormy weather kept republican vice presidential candidate Dick Cheney from making a campaign stop in Cedar Rapids this morning, but he addressed the group gathered at a Senior Center by telephone. Cheney touted the prescription drug plan his running mate, George W. Bush, has proposed. It calls for government coverage of seniors’ prescriptions through private insurance companies or H-M-Os. Cheney says regulating drug prices is not the answer. He says that will only result in fewer drugs in the future.Cheney, a former oil company executive, says it’s time to explore and develop more energy in the U-S. Although he supports corn-based ethanol, he says it’s an additive, not a substitute for traditional gasoline. He says the U-S would have to increase ethanol production and lower its cost.Cheney was due in Council Bluffs at 3:25 this afternoon for an appearance at a library.
