Iowa State University’s “Center for Transportation Research and Education” hopes to get federal grant money to finance research of alcohol-related crashes. Reg Souleyrette, the Center’s Associate Director, wants to look for links between alcohol-crashes and roadway characteristics, like curves, stop lights or pavement.Souleyrette says the research could yield suggestions for improvement in four areas, engineering, enforcement, education and emergency response.Souleyrette’s asking for money the state would get from the feds if Iowa’s drunken driving limit is lowered to point-oh-eight.
