Authorities were able to make a quick arrest following a bank robbery in the tiny southern Iowa town of Lorimor today. Union County Sheriff John Coulter says a man who claimed to have a gun robbed the Lorimor branch of the First National Bank of Creston around 9:20. The man locked the teller in the vault and fled with an undetermined amount of cash. The teller called for help from a phone in the vault. Coulter says the man was caught an hour later on a tip from the F-B-I.Decatur County deputies stopped James Sutherland and took him into custody along with the stolen money. Coulter says Sutherlund had been under surveillance by the FBI.Sutherlund’s last address before going to jail was in Des Moines. The teller of the bank was let out of the vault and was uninjured. Coulter says this is the first bank robbery in Union County in five years. He says a suspect in that robbery was also quickly arrested.
