Iowa’s Governor says officials should proceed with plans to bring high-speed rail service to portions of Iowa. The Iowa Department of Transportation officials are drawing up plans to extend high-speed rail to at least Iowa City, with the line — perhaps — extending to Des Moines and Omaha. Governor Tom Vilsack says the millions in planning are worth it. He says the country as a whole is investing in high-speed rail and Iowa must invest to keep up.Vilsack says the high-speed rail lines, though, will be built in the northeast first — and that means it’ll be a long time before the project would even reach Iowa.
