Five high school students, one from each Iowa congressional district, are attending a summit in Washington, D.C to talk about underage drinking. 17-year old Joshua Schroeder of Kingsley is one of the delegates to the “Mothers Against Drunk Driving National Youth Summit.”Schroeder says drinking is something that has to be addressed as it’s “America’s number one youth problem.” He says alcohol kills more young people than any other drug.He thinks kids who don’t drink have to step forward to get through to those who do.Schroeder attends Kingsley-Pierson High School. Meredith Hoffman of Burlington is at the summit, too. She says she got involved to take a stand on underage drinking.Hoffman, who attends Burlington Notre Dame High School, says they need to change the perception of alcohol among teens.The ideas generated at the summit will be presented to U-S legislators.
