Morningside College is leaving the North Central Conference, effective in the fall of 2002. President John Renders says they plan to go from Division two to Division three. He says he respects the history and tradition of the conference, but says he must look ahead 100 years to prepare the college for the future.Renders says Morningside hopes to join the Iowa Conference at Division three.Renders has been at Morningside for one year. He thinks it’s time for the college to move up and move on.Morningside has been a member of the North Central Conference since its inception in 1922. All athletic scholarships will continue to be honored, but they’ll stop being offered in the fall of 2001. An announcement is expected in April 2001 about which conference the school will join.
