A federal report finds the petroleum industry reaps many benefits which alternative fuels like ethanol do not enjoy. Iowa Senator Tom Harkin says it’s clear corn-based ethanol is subject of discrimination. The report from the General Accounting Office compared tax incentives for the top three petroleum companies in the U-S to other fuels over the past three decades. Harkin says the petroleum companies got 130-Billion dollars in tax breaks, while all renewable alcohol-based fuels took in only 11-point-2 Billion.Harkin says we’ve “paid multi-billions in ransom to the petroleum industry…and we’re still held hostage.”
