The music of bagpipes, harps and fiddles will be drawing crowds to Cedar Rapids for today’s “All Things Scottish” Festival. Organizers say you don’t have to be from the U-K to enjoy the many sights, sounds, tastes and experiences.Jonathan Pruessner is the athletic coordinator for the festival, which will feature field events in what he calls games of strength. He says many of the sporting events have their roots in feats of skill and brawn that were used in times of war centuries ago.The caber toss involves hurling an 18-foot-long 100-pound pole for people to scurry up while storming a castle’s gates. Other events include tossing weights and stones for height and distance.The festival is underway today only at Usher’s Ferry Historical Village in Cedar Rapids from 10 a-m until 6 p-m.
