The two major party candidates for Iowa’s fourth district seat had few disagreements during a joint appearance this weekend. Trade policy was the biggest point of contention between Congressman Greg Ganges, a republican from Des Moines, and democrat challenger Mike Huston of Des Moines. Huston says Ganske was wrong to approve permanent normal trade relations with communist China. He says labor standards are poor in China and the human rights abuses aren’t something to reward.Ganske defended his vote. He says China will lower its trade barriers without the United States giving up anything. Ganske says Iowa’s other congressional representatives and senators voted for trade with China. The candidates made their comments during taping of the Iowa Public Television program, “Iowa Press.”
