Nearly 50 church pastors and lay leaders of multicultural and ethnic churches are meeting in Johnston today. The rural advocacy group “Positively Iowa” and the Ecumenical Ministries of Iowa set up today’s meeting that includes representatives from all across the state. Positively Iowa’s Executive Director, Frank Spillers, says it’s a chance to talk about ethnic issues and the impact of immigration. Spillers says churches are a good place to start in talking about these issues. He says the meeting is not a result of any problems in the church community, it’s just a way to keep up to date on a changing world.The meeting runs today from 11 a-m until 3 p-m at the St. James Lutheran Church.
