A young woman missing for five days after wrecking her car on Interstate-35 has had both legs amputated below the knee. Eighteen-year-old Lindsay Thomas of Clive suffered a number of other injuries. Thomas left Clive for a job in Waverly April 25th and wasn’t found until Monday by a D-O-T road crew. Her parents, who’re from West Union, spoke with the media Tuesday at University Hospitals in Iowa City. Thomas’ mother, Jean Thomas, said they’re incredibly grateful to have their daughter back and offered a thank-you to all who’ve helped them.She was asked if her daughter’s survival is a miracle and said, “Yes, clearly a miracle.”Jean Thomas is not surprised her daughter persevered, as she calls her an amazingly strong girl.Lindsay’s father, Dean Thomas, says they feared the worst in the days before their daughter was found. He says they feared she’d been abducted and taken away, or even murdered.Thomas was listed in critical condition Tuesday in the intensive care unit. Doctors say they’re confident Thomas can recover, and even walk again with the use of prosthetic legs.
