A member of Britain’s Royal family is in Des Moines today, telling a crowd of Weight Watchers members about the battle of the bulge. Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, married a Prince, but talked about her struggle to lose weight following her divorce. She says “Make a difference today, don’t wait for tomorrow.”Ferguson was hired by Weight Watchers to star in television commercials and travel the country, giving inspirational speeches. She says the company is about lifestyle change as well as weight.Ferguson says losing weight has been a tremendous boost, as it makes her feel she’s done something with respect. She says it gives her self confidence and esteem.Ferguson says it takes courage to sit down and be honest about what it takes to lose the weight.Gail Soesbe of Des Moines went to today’s “Super Meeting” to be motivated. She says everyone deals with weight lost, even celebrities.About a thousand Weight Watchers members, nearly all of them women, gathered in a Des Moines hotel this morning to hear the Duchess speak. Ferguson’s next stop: Omaha.
