Legislators are poised to make bestiality a crime in Iowa. The House had voted to make human/animal sex a criminal offense, but Senators balked. Now, the Senate’s going along with the idea. Senator Andy McKean, a republican from Anamosa, says minds were changed by evidence presented by Iowa law enforcement officials. He says the more they found out about the situation, they became convinced that this is going on. He says if defies belief, but he has been shown evidence that it is occurring. Those found guilty of bestiality could wind up in jail for two years and would be ordered to undergo counseling. Leaders say the House will approve the move soon and send the proposal to Governor Vilsack for his approval.
