A long-time coaching career is nearing an end. Paul Solberg has coached five different sports at Luther College the last 34-years, including the last 23 as the head baseball coach. He is retiring at the end of this season and admits being out of coaching will take an adjustment. He says he enjoys watching athletes perform and the relationship he has with other coaches, and that he will miss those aspects of the job.Solberg says he’s had a wonderful career, as he gets up every morning and works in a place he “dearly loves” with people he “dearly loves.”While the coaching profession can be “nomadic”, Solberg is glad he stayed at Luther. He says the student athletes he’s worked with have value systems in place that make them a great treat to watch.During his tenure as baseball coach Luther has won three Iowa Conference titles and advanced to the N-C-A-A division three regionals three times. Luther concludes the regular season Monday with a doubleheader at William Penn.
