It’s been a year since the “Million-Mom March” on Washington, and Iowans against gun violence are staging a much quieter testimonial on this anniversary. Organizer Carlos Jayne says a written prayer for nonviolence has been sent to area churches, along with a fact sheet. Jayne says the Department of Public health and Center for Disease Control are sources for statistics on Iowans and gun violence. He says those stats show more than 200 Iowans die each year from gunshots, most gun deaths suicides. Organizer Carlos Jayne says the facts and mother’s day prayer were maiiled to 150 Des Moines area churches, and local groups around the state and nation are sponsoring activities of their own to commemorate the message of the Million Mom March against gun violence.
