An Iowa Highway Patrol dog will now be the best-dressed canine in the state on crime scenes. A donation from the Council Bluffs Kennel Club has paid for a bulletproof vest for Kevin, one of seven Iowa State Patrol dogs. Troopers’ spokesman Sergeant Rob Hansen says the vest is too hot and heavy for Kevin to wear all day, so it’ll just be put on when potentially dangerous situations arise. Hansen says the shepherd was measured in seven places to make sure the vest is a good fit. The body armor vest cost 600-dollars. Hansen would like to see all Highway Patrol dogs outfitted with the “invaluable” vests.Hansen believes Kevin is now the first law enforcement canine in Iowa with the special vest, made by Forceone Advanced Ballistic Protection in North Carolina.
