The Central College softball team opens a bid for a fourth national championship when the Dutch open the division-three finals tomorrow morning in Eau Claire, Wisconsin against Ithaca College of New York. Central is making its first trip to the final since 1997 after claiming a regional title on Monday with a thrilling win over Pacific Lutheran.Central coach George Wares says they have to understand that the process starts all over again. It is the first-ever meeting between the schools, although Wares says they saw them play earlier this year at a tournament in Georgia.Wares says avoiding the losers bracket early is important though the Dutch did come through the losers bracket to win their first national title in 1988. He says if you lose the first or second game, you have a long way back to win the title.Central is the top-seed in the field which also includes defending champion St. Mary’s of Minnesota.
