Ground was broken today for the three-and-a-half million dollar Lewis and Clark Interactive Center in Sioux City, along the Missouri River. Stan Evans, a former Sioux City City Councilman, says the center will offer a unique perspective on the expedition.The money for the center’s construction came from the non-profit board that manages the charitable grants Sioux City’s riverboat casino is required, by law, to hand out. Belle of Sioux City casino general manager John Pavone says it’s been a partnership between the City and the riverboat.Nate Parker, a Native American, says the center also will tell the story of his ancestors’ involvement in the Lewis and Clark expedition. The Lewis and Clark Center will be built next to the Sergeant Floyd Riverboat Museum. After it opens, it’ll be operated by the Missouri River Historical Development group, which holds the license for the Sioux City riverboat.
