While President Bush travels to Iowa today, Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller is in Washington D-C. Miller is testifying before the Senate Agricultural Appropriations Subcommittee. He’s telling the panel anti-trust laws need to be strictly enforced when dealing with contract farming, but says that’s only one part of the bigger plan.Miller wants state and federal governments to work together to help farmers secure solid, fair deals with corporations. He says the Producer Protection Act would give rights and power to the individual farmer. Miller says he’s not against the practice of contract farming. He says a number of family farmers want to enter contracts, and it can be very good for them.Iowa Senator Tom Harkin is a ranking democrat on the panel and Harkin’s co-sponsoring the federal version of the producer protection bill.
