Lieutenant Governor Sally Pederson will take a 36-city tour of Iowa during the first week of June to highlight some of the state’s many cultural attractions. It’ll start with a Shirley Jones concert in Mason City, which is where Iowa Department of Economic Development director C-J Niles spoke about the tour last night. She says they want to highlight all the things Iowans take for granted.Niles says Iowa has a lot of “hidden treasures” in tourist spots which her agency hopes to better expose.Anita Walker, director of Iowa’s Department of Cultural Affairs, says there are so many attractions in the state even Iowans don’t know about.Walker says many people know about the Amana Colonies but she questions how many Iowans have been to the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier in Dyersville.Niles and Walker were in Mason City as part of the “Iowa Imagine 2010” regional hearings being held statewide this month.
