A fundraising campaign continues to raise money to preserve a unique piece of Iowa history. The Battle Flag Preservation Committee and the State Historical Society are raising money to help preserve the flags carried into battle by Iowans during the Civil War. Committee Vice President Lee Booton says it takes roughly 100-thousand dollars a year to protect the 500 or so battle flags. The latest donation, over 21-hundred dollars, is being presented today from the Iowa AMVETS. Booton says that gift will up the total collected to around six thousand dollars. Booton plans to travel the state seeking other donations.Booton says individuals can donate by giving him a call at 515-289-4099.
