Tom Daschle of South Dakota, the U-S Senate’s Minority Leader, is in Iowa today, doing the kinds of things that indicate he’s laying the groundwork for a presidential campaign. Daschle says he won’t decide until after the mid-term 2002 election whether he’ll launch a presidential campaign.The U-S Senate is split, 50 Republicans and 50 Democrats. This evening, Senators will vote on a one-point-three trillion dollar tax cut plan that’s very close to what President Bush proposed. Up to 10 democrats are expected to vote for the plan, but Daschle’s not one of ’em. He says he’s concerned about “exacerbating the deficit again.”Yesterday, Daschle was the main attraction at a fundraiser for Iowa Senator Tom Harkin. He’s speaking to the Rotary Club in Cedar Rapids at mid-day.
