An investigation may be expanded into the death of a young child in Eastern Iowa. Bettendorf Police continue to investigate at an apartment where they found a dead infant last month. Investigators say a woman they think gave birth to the child is now in a mental-health center, and Police Chief Phil Redington says investigators are trying to determine how the baby died and whether there was another one earlier.Redington says they’re waiting on DNA and autopsy results. Authorities say they found the body of a newborn baby girl in the woman’s apartment on April 29th, but no arrests have been made and no charges filed. Chief Redington says a search of the Bettendorf apartment turned up evidence that may indicate the woman gave birth to another child, more than a year earlier. Police haven’t released names of the woman or her boyfriend, who they say is not a suspect in the infant’s death.
