The Des Moines Buccaneers of the United States Hockey League have fired Coach Tom Carroll and replaced him with former coach Bob Ferguson. During a five-year stint with the Bucs, Ferguson led the team to national championships in 1992 and 1995. He spent the last three season with the Florida Everblades of the East Coast Hockey League and twice was named that league’s coach of the year. Buccaneer president Ellis Moose says the chance to bring Ferguson back was too good to pass up.Moose says Ferguson was extremely popular with the fans, which is part of the reason they brought him back to Iowa.Moose says the hiring comes at a time when a number of new and successful franchises have made it more difficult to compete in the U-S-H-L.Ferguson began his U-S-H-L career at Sioux City where he led the Musketeers to a national title.
