There’ll be thousands of trucks, cars and campers out on the road this weekend, along with some extra watching eyes.Sergeant Robert Hanson of the Iowa State Patrol says the start of the summer driving season also signals the start of a series of Patrol operations dubbed “Care,” or “Combined Accident Reduction Effort.” Hanson says the officers will focus on speeding, alcohol and other traffic violations on the heavily traveled roadways of the Hawkeye State. He says there’s been a steady trend of deaths during this weekend over the past 15 years, with at least four people killed in Memorial Day weekend accidents — last year it was five. Hanson encourages people who drink to name a designated driver.Hanson says 80 extra troopers will be on the road from tonight through Monday night.
